Frequently Asked Questions

Building A Knowledge-Base.

As a truly professional general contracting company, we believe in educating our clients about the construction process. Our clients’ complaints about their experiences with other restoration construction companies generally revolve around feeling un-informed about the process itself especially when it comes to damage restoration.

Here are some of the questions commonly asked about our residential construction services and the process of service disaster recovery.

Will the Insurance Carrier pay J.F. Davis directly?

No, the insurance carrier will pay you, the insured, and it is your responsibility to pay J.F. Davis Construction.

When can you start reconstruction?

We prefer to gain full approval of the reconstruction scope and estimate package from the carrier prior to starting reconstruction.  This eliminates all grey area and all parties involved understand exactly what is and what will not be paid by the carrier.  Under normal circumstances, the approval process can take anywhere from one day to one month.  Under certain circumstances we are willing to proceed prior to receiving full approvals, but, this is determined on a job by job basis.

Do you charge for estimates?

We do provide free estimates.  If a client is requesting that we work on their behalf to negotiate with their insurance carrier, we do require that we enter into our standard “Work Authorization” agreement.  This will enable the carrier’s representative to communicate with us directly to come to an agreed upon scope of work / estimate package, while also protecting the time J.F. Davis Construction will need to commit to the project in order to gain the approvals.  If approvals are received and the client decides to either complete the work themselves or hire another general contracting company, the client is responsible for compensating J.F. Davis Construction 10% of the total agreed estimate price which was approved by the insurance carrier.

What do we do if our payment check from the insurance carrier includes our mortgage holder?

This is very common since the mortgage holder has an interest in the affected property.  This can be very time consuming.  At J.F. Davis Construction, we work through these situations on a regular basis and we can assist our clients when dealing with mortgage holders to expedite the entire process.

Can we add items above and beyond what the insurance will cover?

Yes, once we have an agreed upon an estimate package with the insurance carrier we can then determine what additional items the client would like to pursue and a full list of costs will be provided prior to starting the work.

Can we select the materials we would like to use for damage restoration?

Yes, once the estimate is approved a meeting will be scheduled with a representative of J.F. Davis Construction to make those material selections.  Additional cost may be incurred if the client selects materials above and beyond the established material allowances.
